Futsal is a fast-paced, indoor version of football played on a smaller, hard court with five players per team. The game emphasizes skill, quick passing, and close ball control. It is recognized by FIFA and is widely played around the world.

Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo, Neymar and Ronaldinho  have credited futsal for shaping their skills and playing style in football (soccer).

Lionel Messi

  • Growing up in Argentina, Messi was exposed to futsal—a game known for its emphasis on tight ball control, quick decision-making, and dribbling in confined spaces. These skills, nurtured on the smaller futsal courts, have become hallmarks of his playing style on the football pitch.

Cristiano Ronaldo

  • Ronaldo played futsal as a child in Portugal and has acknowledged how it enhanced his quick decision-making, agility, and technical ability in tight spaces. He has mentioned that futsal helped him think and react faster on the field, shaping his creativity and attacking style.

Neymar

  • Neymar grew up playing futsal in Brazil, where the fast-paced, skill-intensive nature of the game helped him develop his signature dribbling, quick footwork, and close ball control. He has often spoken about how futsal was instrumental in his development as a footballer.

Ronaldinho

  • In Brazil, where futsal is a popular sport among young players, Ronaldinho honed his technical skills on smaller courts. The fast-paced nature of futsal helped him develop exceptional close control, creativity, and the ability to maneuver in tight spaces, all of which contributed to his reputation as one of the most skillful and entertaining players in football history.

The Futsal Association of India (FAI) with headquarters located in Mumbai, is the governing body responsible for promoting and developing Futsal in India. FAI organizes national and regional tournaments, training programs, and grassroots initiatives.

The Futsal Association of India (FAI) was established in 2008 and has been affiliated with the Asociación Mundial de Fútbol de Salón (AMF) since 2011 and is also a founding member of the Confederation of Asian Futsal (CAFS).

4TH C17 BOYS FUTSAL NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP 2025 is being organised by Futsal Association of India from the 28th TO 31st MARCH, 2025, in Nashik, Maharashtra.
